The temptation with a list such as this is to name many books. Every book you read or listen to gives you something. I have decided to resist this temptation and only list books that have had a large impact on me. If you read all of these, let me know and I’ll happily suggest more.

START HERE

It all starts with these 2 books. Both published for the first time in the 1930s 1 year apart, (1936 and 1937). The principles in these books are eternal. To be truthful, if these are the only 2 books you ever read, you’ll be OK.

Think and Grow Rich

The best book ever written on how to be successful. Napoleon Hill spent 20+ years studying and interviewing the most successful people of that time. Through this research he developed 13 principles that if followed will ensure success in your chosen field. I have returned to this book many times, and will continue to do so for the rest of my life.

How to Win Friends and Influence People

The best book ever written on dealing with people. Dale Carnegie’s book was developed after he spent years teaching people how to deal more effectively with others. You will become a better person, then your life and your business will improve by putting the principles of this book into action.

BOOKS ABOUT BUSINESS

You Were Born Rich – Bob Proctor

In this book Bob explains how our Self Image determines our Outcomes. He then explains how to change your self image so you can achieve your goals. In my view, he explains this principle better than anyone else

The Creature from Jekyll Island – G. Edward Griffin

I read this book for the first time drinking cocktails around the pool at Hayman Island. Concerned with what I was reading I emailed my stockbroker. His response –  “Don’t read scary novels on holidays.” Novel is the key word here as many people believe what is written borders on Conspiracy Theory. Nevertheless, it explains the History of Money the Federal Reserve and its workings. It’s easy to read, entertaining and certainly thought provoking.

BOOKS ABOUT LIFE

The Power of Now – Eckhart Tolle

An amazing book explaining complex spiritual concepts in very easy to understand language. Every time I read or listen to this book I feel my energy and my thoughts elevate.

Sapiens: A brief history of humankind – Yuval Noah Harari

Understand the complete history of our species. This book gave me knowledge, perspective and a few WTF moments.

GREAT BIOGRAPHIES

Churchill – Andrew Roberts

Caution – this book is huge. Thought of by many as the best book ever written about Churchill. His life was amazing. After reading this you will have an understanding of why he is regarded as one of the most important figures in Modern time, and you will become an advocate for the study of history. So much can be learnt from the leader of World War 2.

Total Recall – Arnie

At a young age Arnie decided he wanted to be the Best Body Builder in the World, then become an Actor, then try his hand at Politics. Very few people reach the top in one of these fields, he reached the top in all three. That’s unheard of. Read this book to understand how he achieved this. I also appreciated his honesty and it’s generally just an entertaining read.

Shoe Dog – Phil Knight

The amazing and entertaining story of Nike. Learn how the whole thing nearly crumbled multiple times, and how it was saved at the last minute more than once. Inspiring for any business owner.
