Just me, no roadmap. I always wanted a business that was more than just a job, so from day one I was clear on what I was building toward. It took 18 years, a lot of mistakes, and serious investment in my own development, I had a coach for years and spent a long time learning from people smarter and more successful than me. That's how I grew to 45+ staff and eventually sold.
Over the years, I was told how lucky I was so many times, with no idea the work that was going in to make me look 'lucky'. I saw great tradies go into business and really struggle because they just didn't know where to focus their energy or what it really took to build the business they wanted.
I still run another trade business, and working with business owners who are growing their businesses is something I love to do, because there are so many great tradies out there who've taken the leap, built something real, and just need someone in their corner to help them take it further.
